Dana 44 Full Float Housing Ends

Batch Two now in stock.

These CNC machined 1018 billet steel housing ends allow the construction of a Dana 44 style Full Floating rear housing using any 2.75-3.00" diameter axle tube and center section. This includes most Dana 44 housings, Ford 9" housings, Toyota, and others.

These cups are designed around using any Jeep/GM/Dodge/other spindle with the 6 on 4.00" mounting pattern with a 3.370" register diameter. This allows you to combine various parts to have a 5 on 5.5, 6 on 5.5, or 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern to match a variety of front axles. In general, this cup allows you to use all the same parts as the front axle to keep your spare part count low. A single spare wheel bearing, locking hub, or seal could be shared between all 4 corners of the vehicle.

This end cup is rough sized at 2.70" and are to be bored to fit the actual measurement of your axle tube. (I can provide this service based on your measurements for an additional charge). The axle tube can vary as much as 1/16" from the nominal diameter with OEM/used housings. Boring the end to fit is an easy operation for any local machine shop. With 1.38" of tube overlap, there is no need for an alignment bar during assembly. My suggestion is a hot/cold slip fit. With an ~3" axle tube, the cup end would be turned to 0.002" less than tube diameter. The cup is then to be heated to 200-300F before assembly and welding.

Note: Be sure to set the 'clocking' of the end cup during the assembly process to match your planned brake system (and to the opposite side). Two long 3/8 fasteners can be assembled into the spindle mounting holes with tails protruding to form a two point platform for an angle finder or level. These can also help provide leverage for turning the spindle during the setup process.

Note: Ensure the tube end of the axle is cut as perpendicular as practical to allow maximum tube engagement in the housing. Chamfer the end of the axle tube(s) 1/32nd to help with assembly fit.

Note: When planning the housing width, the WMS surface will be 4.38" from the end of axle tube, and 3.44" from the spindle mounting surface ( these numbers are referencing a 6 on 5.5 hub pattern hub assembly using GM/FSJ big bearing parts and internal style bearing hubs ). Do not assume these numbers will be correct for a different assembly. Always mock up and measure before cutting your axle tubes!

Note: This end cup incorporates a pocket designed to accept an elastomer seal if you wish to have the spindle bearings be grease rather than oil lubricated. Use seal Trail Gear SKU 144020
